Lead management

Follow up after a demo steps that keep a deal moving

The demo is not the end of the conversation

A demo is the moment a company sees what you sell. The follow up after a demo is where most small deals stall: the call ends friendly, both sides are busy, and two weeks later nobody remembers what was agreed.

A good follow-up is short and specific. It repeats the one problem they mentioned, confirms the next step you agreed on and asks one question they can answer in a line. It goes from your own mailbox, written by you; this is not a moment for a template sent to a whole list.

What happens after the call belongs on the lead, not in your memory. In Riftjaw you write the outcome in the notes of the company, keep its status on Replied once they answered you, and put a tag such as demo-done with a date field for when to look again. You decide when to write; Riftjaw keeps the details in order, and every mail that already went to the company is visible on it.

A follow-up plan after a demo

The timing is an example, not a rule. Use the dates you agreed with the company on the call.

WhenWhat you doWhat you note on the lead
The same daySend a short thank-you with the next step you agreed onOutcome of the demo and the questions they asked
A few days laterSend the one thing you promised: an answer, an example, an offerWhat you sent and what they still need to decide
After the date you agreedAsk one plain question about the decisionA date field for when to look again
When they say not nowThank them and ask when it makes sense to come backA tag such as not-now plus the date they named

What makes a demo follow-up work

Their words, not your pitch

Repeat the problem the way they described it on the call. It shows you listened and keeps the email short.

One next step

A follow-up with three options gets no answer. Name the one step you agreed on and the date.

Notes the team can read

Write the outcome on the company, not in a private file. Users are unlimited, so a colleague can pick it up when you are away.

A date you can find again

A date field with a saved segment on it shows every company that is due this week. See lead records.

Your follow-up checklist

  • Write the outcome on the lead within the hour.
  • Send the thank-you the same day.
  • Send only what you promised, nothing more.
  • Set a date field for the next contact.
  • Ask one question per email.

Frequently asked questions

How soon should I follow up after a demo?

Usually the same day, with a short thank-you and the next step you agreed on. After that, follow the dates you agreed on the call rather than a fixed schedule.

What should a follow-up email after a demo contain?

The problem they mentioned in their own words, the next step and one question. Leave out the full feature list; they just saw the product.

What if they do not answer after the demo?

Send one plain question after the date you agreed, such as whether the decision is still open. If the answer is not now, tag the company and set a date to look again.

Can Riftjaw send demo follow-ups automatically?

A campaign can have up to 5 follow-ups, but after a demo a personal email from your own mailbox fits better. Riftjaw does not read replies; you set the status and write the notes.

Where do I keep notes from the demo?

On the company itself, in the notes of its lead record, so anyone on the team can read them before the next call. More in sales call preparation.

What is Riftjaw?

Riftjaw is a B2B lead database you own: import the companies you collect, keep every record with its source, sort them into segments and reach them by email in small batches. Each account runs on its own private server with its own database.
